Distance Work Arrangements: The Workplace of the Future Is Now

Distance work arrangements—such as telework, remote work, and distributed teams— have been a growing trend in the workplace for more than a decade. For example, the federal government adopted the Telework Enhancement Act in 2010. And some private sector businesses have moved their operations completely online and maintain a virtual workforce that allows employees to work from anywhere in the world.

Emily G. Craig is a Partner in IBM’s U.S. Federal Talent & Transformation practice. With client experience ranging across public, private, and nonprofit sectors, she works with clients to develop transformational strategies that integrate exponential technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud.

Ms. Craig leads the Federal Talent Acquisition Optimization (TAO) team, developing solutions for the Federal market and coaching practitioners to grow their expertise and skills. With TAO, she brought a mature, private sector solution to the Federal market, leveraging leading private sector practices while redesigning TAO for Federal hiring and position management requirements, developing new AI solutions to increase efficiency and reduce cost.

Ms. Craig also has expertise in project and program management, design thinking, process redesign, organizational design, culture, technology adoption, and behavioral economics. She has led projects ranging from supporting creation of a new Cabinetlevel Federal agency, to implementing and operating technology solutions, to designing strategies for improving service delivery.
